What I proposed was that people are patterns - that the essence of what a person is, is a strategy for approaching life, a meme basically. And that perhaps there is an affinity between similar memes, such that when one recognizes another that is similar, that it feels a selfishly motivated desire to support it and bond with it.
The idea of people as patterns is sort of interesting. I really need to read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance again.
