Distraction is contagious

Whenever I'm talking to someone who isn't paying attention, my mind gets derailed and I can't hold a sentence together. If that person gets interested in what I'm saying, I have a much easier time, and I can even sometimes achieve eloquence.

Has anyone else noticed this?
